Su objetivo es mejorar su calidad de vida y la de sus familiares fomentando la integración en la sociedad. Actualmente está constituida por el Centro de Educación Especial, Centro Ocupacional y Centro de Apoyo a Tercera Persona, que ofrecen sus servicios a un total de 250 personas.

Durante el taller, los asistentes han participado, divididos en grupos reducidos, en la construcción de un robot marino operado remotamente (en inglés ROVs, “Remotely Operated Vehicles”) a partir de materiales de bajo coste. Al finalizar, los participantes han probado los ROVs en la piscina del centro.

Este taller presencial se encuadra dentro del programa del proyecto ROVSTEAM: Desarrollo de competencias STEAM mediante Robótica Marina Educativa de bajo coste, que forma parte de la iniciativa de Robótica Submarina Educativa EDUROVs y que plantea la construcción de robots marinos operados remotamente a nivel educativo en varios ámbitos de actuación, a partir de herramientas de bajo coste, con hardware y software libres. El proyecto pretende realizar una actividad de divulgación de la ciencia y de la tecnología que pueda llegar a más personas e incorporar más elementos y herramientas tecnológicas adecuadas a los diferentes niveles educativos mediante una metodología de aprendizaje por proyectos.

El proyecto ROVSTEAM es parte de la Iniciativa de Robótica Marina Educativa de PLOCAN, con la colaboración de la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECyT) –Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, la Obra Social de La Caixa y el Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
